How do I become a Child of God?

I must confess that this is an important question for anyone seeking to be a child of God. To be a child of God is the greatest blessing ever. After God has reckoned you as his child, he blesses you with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. It is a great privilege for anyone to be part of the family of God, to be part of his children whom he has purchased with his own blood.

Is every single person on earth a Child of God?

Many people are of the view that every single person on earth is by default a child of God. But is this asseveration true?  Is every person on earth irrespective of their spiritual standing a child of the most high without discrimination? Many of the people out there are self deceived, they think they are children of God, but in truth they are not. We are all God's handiwork, but not all of us are God's children. Someone might ask, then how can I be a child of God? What must I do to become a Child of the most high?

Faith in Christ Jesus is the only way 

The bible provides the answer to this question, for it is written: But to as many as did receive him, to those who put their trust in his person and power, he gave the right to become children of God, - John 1:12

If you exercise saving faith in Christ Jesus, you will receive the right and the privilege to become a Child of God. Faith in the person of Christ is the only way a person can become a Child of the most high. 

In another place, it is also written: For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3; 26).

It is conspicuous in this text, that the children of God are the people who are united to Christ by faith. Apart from faith in Christ Jesus, there is no way a person can become a Child of God. If you reject the gospel of your salvation, then you will not have the right to be a child of God.

“See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him”- 1 John 3:1

Peradventure, if you have no personal relationship with Christ, then of a truth you are not a child of God and the above text does not apply to you, it solely applies to Christians. The father has bestowed this great love on us (the believing ones) and has called us his children by reason of our faith in the Son of God.

Exhortation to believe 

I beseech you, not to reject Christ anymore, do not continue to turn your back against him. Good works are insufficient in themselves to make you a child of God, nor being a good person, nor being a member of a particular religion can make you a child of God. 

You need to believe from your heart that Jesus was God incarnate, died for your sins and resurrected on the third day and confess him as your Lord and Savior and you shall be saved (Romans 10; 9). The moment you believe in Christ for salvation, instantly you become a beloved child of God (John 1; 12). True children of God are those who have trusted in Christ alone for their salvation. What is the purpose of the church?

Beloved in Christ, the biblical meaning of church is an assembly of believers. The Greek word, "Ekklesia" means, ''the called out ones or a Christian community''. Christians are the very people God has chosen and called them out unto himself. The church constitute Christ hand, his eyes, his mouth, his legs, etc. We are the body of Christ and individual members of it, see (1 Corinthians 12; 27). If Jesus was God, then why did he not know the day and hour of his return?

Is it true that Jesus did not know the day and hour of his return during the days of his flesh? The answer is yes, he did not know, for it is written: "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
